Ease on Back (by Julie Gudmestad, from yogajournal.com)
EVERY student of yoga, and of life, should read this very informative article about how to protect the back in lifting, forward bending, etc. It stresses the importance of lengthening the hamstrings , and provides a progressive routine to do so. There is also good information on why it is important not only to strengthen the abdominals, but the long muscles of the back as well, for an all-around powerful core. Excellent read!

Plantar Fasciitis, Myofascial Connections and Yoga (by Dr. Ray Long) I'm so grateful to Dr. Ray Long, for sharing his infinite anatomy wisdom with us, and in such an engaging, beautifully visual and thought-provoking format. I suffered from Plantar Fasciitis years ago, but haven't even given it a thought since I began practicing yoga asana. If this applies to you or someone you know please inform yourself and your loved ones. We couldn't have a better teacher than Dr. Long!

I know, I know...you get these cues from me ALL THE TIME. BUT...please take a little bit of time to read Dr. Long's article. Even in our Yin practice I emphasize not "slumping" forward through the spine. After you finish reading this, you'll understand exactly how to execute this pose, and why.
Sciatica and Yoga (from Bernie Clark's website YinYoga.com)
This article is rather long, but if you ache through the hips, or have shooting pains down one or both legs, there is some good guidance here to take to your healthcare practitioner. Bernie's emphasis here is that Sciatica can be caused by a multitude of problems, and diagnosis is the best place to start. That being said, his article may provide some very helpful advice in dealing with Sciatica once your condition is diagnosed:
